Commonly shortened to ‘Lupus’, SLE is an autoimmune disease that can affect the skin, joints, blood and central nervous system of the body.

Signs and symptoms

SLE has some distinguishing symptoms and is diagnosed by having at least four symptoms.

Treatment options

As with all autoimmune diseases, reduction of inflammation is key to preventing damage to organs and tissues. No single treatment for SLE exists and five medications are most commonly prescribed.
