Camps for kids with arthritis
At Arthritis NSW, our goal is to help children and young people with arthritis.
Arthritis & Osteoporosis NSW runs two annual camps for children affected by juvenile arthritis: Camp Twinkletoes for children under 8 years old and their families, and Camp Footloose for children and young people aged 9 to 18 years Our camps provide children and young people living with juvenile arthritis an opportunity to participate in fun and educational activities, in a safe and supportive environment, without fear of being different.
Camp Twinkletoes 2018 will be Friday 13 April to Sunday 15 April 2018 in Manly (Sydney). The format will be similar to that proven to be so successful at our previous camps:
- The program will commence on a Friday evening with an informal discussion, including talks from a number of camp leaders sharing their experience of growing up with arthritis.
- Saturday’s program is designed to provide parents and carers with information about how to manage and care for their child, while the children are entertained with volunteer-lead activities such as craft and games. The day’s activities close with a special guest entertainer for the kids.
- The education sessions are led by health professionals such as paediatric rheumatologists, specialty clinical nurse consultants, and physiotherapists.
- The free evenings are a great time for sharing experiences and making new friends, so important for both the kids and their families.
Here’s what families had to say when we asked them what was the best thing about the camp:
“… meeting other families that know what we’re going through.”
“From the volunteers to the parents, each person has made me feel so very at ease … providing me with a lot of information … giving me reassurance.”
Camp Footloose 2018 will be held in the second week of the NSW October school holidays, Monday the 8th to Friday the 12th October 2018. For more information visit our website: Camp Footloose 2018
